Services and Membership

This page details services and membership information of branches of the Clarence Regional Library.

Membership

Membership is free to all ratepayers and residents of the Shires and Councils covered by the Clarence Regional Library. This includes Bellingen, Nambucca, and Clarence Valley.

( See also Temporary Borrowers ).

A membership card is issued to each borrower on joining. It MUST be presented whenever books etc., are borrowed. You may borrow books from ANY OF THE Branch Libraries and Bookmobile.

Loans

The following guidelines apply for loans within Clarence Regional Libraries. A computer catalogue of the library's stock is available for public use in each branch.

Book Numbers Members may borrow books, periodicals and audiovisual items. Numbers of items may vary from branch to branch and time from time.
Reservations Reservations may be made for books not on the shelf. For books held by another branch within this system there is no charge for reservations.
Inter Library Loan Materials not held by the Clarence Regional Library system may be available from other libraries on Inter Library Loan ( ILL ). Please ask branch staff about this service.  The fee is $5.50 per request.
Standard Loan The standard loan period is 3 weeks. This may be lengthened under special circumstances at the borrowers request.
Renewals Books can be renewed by telephone or in person if the loan period is not long enough. They may be renewed up to 2 times.
Returns Books may be returned outside library hours, through the chutes provided.
Overdue Books Any book returned after the due date will have a fine of $0.10 cents per day charged against it.
Lost / damaged items Any library materials lost or damaged must be paid for by the borrower.  The original purchase price, plus a processing fee of $5.00, plus 10% GST will be charged.

Disabled Services, Large Print, Talking Books and Adult Literacy

Clarence Regional Libraries have a range of disabled, adult literacy and visually impaired services, This includes wheelchair access, talking books, large print books. an adult literacy collection and a housebound service which is available through some branches. The housebound service consists of delivering material to housebound people. If you know wish to know about the house bound service or you wish to volunteer to assist in the provision of this service please contact your local branch (refer to the branch or contact section for details of your nearest branch).

Temporary Borrowers

Under reciprocal agreements if you are a member of another public library you may for the duration of your stay, and on the presentation of your borrowers card from your home library, borrow from this library service. Our members can avail themselves to this service when visiting other areas.

If you are not a member of another public library, or you do not have a library card with you, a deposit of $30.00 will entitle you to membership to this library service for a year. On terminating your membership $20.00 will be refunded.

Internet Service

Internet service is currently available free of charge to library members in all of the branches of the Clarence Regional Library.  There is a charge of $5.00 per half-hour for non-members. For information on conditions of use for Internet machines please refer to the policies section, signage at the branch library and instruction from the library staff.

CD ROM

Depending on the local library CD Roms are available for Clarence Regional Library members. The availability, number and type of CD Roms will vary according to Branch. Please refer to the Branch section for contact details for your nearest branch with regards to CD ROM material.

HSC Resources

Depending on the individual branch Clarence Regional Libraries have access to HSC resources for students in the form of study guides, past papers, research material including novels etc and Internet access. For on-line information please refer to the Education links section. This contains links to on-line HSC material.

Australian Bureau of Statistics material

Clarence Regional Library is an " outreach" library for the Australian Bureau of Statistics at Regional Headquarters. A core collection of the major A.B.S titles is held.  ABS publications are now available online at www.abs.gov.au
