Become a Member

Library membership is free to all residents of the Bellingen Shire and Clarence Valley Council areas.

To become a member, visit your local library and present proof of your name and current address.

There is no minimum age for joining, however those under the age of 15 years require a signature and identification from their parent or guardian.

For those on holidays or currently not living permanently in the local area, you can still join as a Reciprocal member or for a small refundable fee as a Temporary member. 

By joining the library, you are agreeing to act in accordance with our conditions of membership.

List of acceptable forms of identification

Please provide one of the following forms of identification if you would like to join the library.

  • Drivers' licence
  • learner's permit
  • proof of age card
  • car registration
  • current centrelink card
  • utility account (eg. gas, electricity)
  • telephone or mobile phone bill
  • bank or credit card statement
  • council or water rate notice
  • rental agreement
  • document from a Government department (eg, Australian Tax Office, Child Support Agency)
  • document from a recognised educational institution
  • firearms licence
  • boat licence.

 

 

Conditions of membership

  • To borrow items you must present your library membership card.
  • All items may be borrowed for four weeks.
  • You may borrow up to 30 library items on your card. These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of Clarence Regional Library.
  • Items may be renewed twice. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan a renewal is not permitted. Items may be returned at any branch of the Library. After hour chutes are available at all branches. Items left in the chute after hours are regarded as having been returned on the next open day.
  • Membership is temporary suspended if you have overdues items and outstanding charges.
  • Overdue notices are a courtesy reminder for your convenience.
  • Reservations are able to be placed on library items currently on loan and/or held at any of the other branches of Clarence Regional Library.
  • An inter-library loan service is available for items which are not held by Clarence Regional Library and are available at another library service within Australia.
  • All costs incurred by the Library due to items lost or damaged whilst in your care must be reimbursed. All inter-library loan and lost membership card charges are non-refundable.
  • If you change your address or name please notify us immediately or amend your details online using My Library (you will need your Library ID and PIN for this service).
  • Please report lost cards to the library immediately.
  • You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
  • Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties.

Join online

If joining online, you will be provided with a temporary borrower ID number allowing you to reserve items on the library catalogue.

You will need to visit your local library and provide suitable identification to pick up your card and fully activate your library membership as online memberships expire after 6 months.
